During the second race of Thursday’s nine-race card, an incident during the upper stretch run led to the death of 2-year-old Sing for Mo Money.

According to the Equibase race chart, Sing for Mo Money sustained contact from other horses at the start of a 4 1/2 furlong maiden special weight race on a fast main surface. The horse rallied to be in the lead of the race before suffering an injury.

Sing for Mo Money was pulled up in the stretch by its jockey, Alex Achard. While being pulled up, the horse was bumped from behind. Sing for Mo Money was taken from the track in an equine ambulance.

According to Keeneland’s safety report, Sing for Mo Money received immediate medical attention before being transported off site.

“Following initial evaluation, the colt was transported to Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, where further evaluation determined that, due to the extent of his injuries, humane euthanasia was recommended in the best interest of the horse,” the safety report read.

Sing for Mo Money was taking part in its first career race. The horse was trained by John Ennis, owned by FriendStable, LLC and bred by Parker Farms, Billy Joe and Kimberly Parker.

The horse’s sire was Mo Donegal, who finished fifth in the 2022 Kentucky Derby and won that year’s Belmont Stakes.

Sing for Mo Money’s mare was Sing Sing Dixie, who was by Into Mischief.

This is the second time this week that a horse died following a racing incident at Keeneland.

On Wednesday, a Keeneland safety report announced the death of 2-year-old filly Autism Honor G, also following a 4 1/2 furlong maiden special weight race on a fast main surface.

According to the Equibase race chart, Autism Honor G was pulled up in the stretch by its jockey, Agustin Gomez, before being transported off the track in an equine ambulance.

The Keeneland safety report said the horse suffered a knee fracture, and that humane euthanasia was elected. As of Friday morning, the safety report for the incident was no longer available on Keeneland’s website.

Autism Honor G was trained by Israel Acevedo and owned by Cinthya Delfin. The horse was bred by Marcuzzi Thoroughbreds Inc.

Austim Honor G’s sire was Highly Motivated, and the horse’s mare was Nutmeg, who came from 1999 Belmont Stakes winner Lemon Drop Kid.
