Kentucky Beer Cheese? Lexington Legends baseball team reveals new alternate identity

The Lexington Legends announced Wednesday they are “feeling cheesy” over their new name — the Kentucky Beer Cheese.

The Class A affiliate for the Kansas City Royals announced the promotional rebranding will take place Aug. 13-15 and the South Atlantic League club will wear Beer Cheese hats and uniforms.

Nearby Winchester, Kentucky, is the birthplace of the cheesy spread, a popular bar item across the country. Fans can count on plenty of cheese items on the concession menu for the Legends’ — er, Beer Cheese’s — three games in August.

“The Beer Cheese industry is massive and has always enjoyed having a home in Kentucky after it was birthed in Clark County,” Legends President and CEO Andy Shea said in a statement. “We have been cheesing ever since we had the opportunity to partner with Kentucky Beer Cheese on this collaboration.”

Beer cheese pizza from Apollo Pizza will be on the menu along with chicken beer cheese egg rolls, beer cheese burgers, and beer cheese melts on Texas toast, the club announced.

Fans can buy Beer Cheese hats at www.lexingtonlegends.com.

One fan already has the new logo tattooed on her arm, the official Minor League Baseball Twitter account posted Wednesday.
