‘Lexington is my second home.’ New ‘voice of the Legends’ got his start at UK.
The Lexington Legends will have a new voice behind the baseball microphone this season.
Andrew Murphy, a University of Kentucky graduate from St. Louis, will take over the team’s online-streamed game broadcasts in 2020. Murphy replaces Emma Tiedemann, who is moving on to a new opportunity in another minor league city, team president and CEO Andy Shea said.
Tiedemann has been the voice of the Legends since 2018. At the time, she was one of only two females handling daily broadcasts in all of baseball.
Murphy called games for the Duluth (Minn.) Huskies of the Northwoods League last season. While at UK, he studied aside Tiedemann in 2018.
“Lexington is my second home, and the Legends have given me so much over the past few years,” Murphy said in a team news release. “I can’t express my thanks enough, except to give it my all in the booth and around the community this season.”
Murphy, who will also serve as the team’s media relations director, takes over just in time for the team’s 20th season. The Legends are coming off back-to-back South Atlantic League championships.
“Andrew’s energy and enthusiasm are a perfect fit with our winning culture on and off the field,” Shea said.
Legends broadcasts will be available to stream online for free through milb.com and lexingtonlegends.com.
The Legends open the 2020 season with an exhibition game at home against the Bowling Green Hot Rods on April 7. Opening Day is April 9 against the Greenville Drive at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
