What we know about the Dominican Republic National Select Team:
▪ Kentucky Coach John Calipari said on his Twitter feed Wednesday that the Dominican Republic Select Team will feature “older players, not the Under-22 team, because we wanted great competition out of the gate.”
▪ Justin Minaya will be one familiar face on the Select Team that has enjoyed some success against Kentucky. A 6-foot-6, 215-pound forward, Minaya played for South Carolina from 2017-2021. In three games against UK, Minaya played in two South Carolina victories. He averaged 7 points and 3.3 rebounds vs. the Wildcats in his career. Minaya played last season at Providence College as a transfer and averaged 6.5 points and 5.5 rebounds.
▪ Of the players suiting up for the D.R. Select Team tonight, guard Andres Feliz may have been the best college player. The 6-1, 205-pound Feliz averaged 11 points, five rebounds and 2.9 assists for Illinois in 2019-20.
▪ At 7-1, 258 pounds, the Select Team’s Adonis De La Rosa will be a big body to throw against Kentucky star Oscar Tshiebwe. De La Rosa averaged 11.8 points and 7.6 rebounds for Kent State in 2017-18. He did not have the same impact after transferring to Illinois in 2018-19, averaging 2.3 points and 1.8 rebounds.
▪ Tickets for the game are $100 each with general-admission seating.
