John Clay Podcast: Kentucky-South Carolina football preview
Lexington Herald-Leader sports columnist John Clay talks with Josh Kendall of The State and Jennifer Smith of the Herald-Leader about Saturday’s Kentucky-South Carolina SEC matchup at Commonwealth Stadium.
Kendall talks about the first three games of the Will Muschamp era at South Carolina. After Steve Spurrier’s retirement last season, Muschamp has tried to modernize the program to catch up with the rest of the conference. The Gamecocks opened 2016 with a win at Vanderbilt before losing at Mississippi State. They beat East Carolina 20-15 last week in Muschamp’s first home game at Columbia.
Smith talks about quarterback Drew Barker’s back injury and the background of his replacement, Stephen Johnson. A junior college transfer, Johnson arrived on campus in January. He played very well in place of Barker in UK’s win over New Mexico State. Smith also discusses Mark Stoops’ frustration with his defense.
