The Central Michigan Chippewas have been to a bowl game each of the past four years. They were 8-5 last season under Coach John Bonamego, who is 21-18 in three seasons as the CMU coach. And they have a history of beating Power Five conference schools, including a 45-27 win at Kansas last season.

This is a different Central Michigan team that will arrive Saturday for Kentucky’s 2018 season opener at Kroger Field. (It’s a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on ESPNU.) The Chips return just 10 starters and are breaking in a new starting quarterback in Tony Poljan, who played some wide receiver and tight end last season.

I talked with Adam Jaksa, sideline reporter for the CMU radio network, to get a scouting report on the Mid-American Conference team. Jaksa said CMU does boast 1,000-yard rusher Jonathan Ward, but Bonamego and Co. will have plenty of questions to answer come Saturday.
