College football on television this weekend (Sept. 10-12)

The NFL kickoff featuring the world champion Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans (8:20 p.m, NBC) isn’t the only football on television Thursday night.

UAB at Miami on the ACC Network kicks off the first fairly full weekend of college football. UAB is already 1-0 after beating Central Arkansas 45-36 last week. Miami features new quarterback D’Eriq King, the grad transfer from Houston.

Saturday’s schedule includes Louisville and Western Kentucky facing off at 8 p.m. on the ACC Network. It’s the first game of the season for second-year coaches Scott Satterfield of Louisville and Ty Helton of WKU. U of L went 8-5 last season with a win over Mississippi State in the Music City Bowl. The Hilltoppers went 9-4 with a 23-20 win over Western Michigan in the First Responders Bowl.

[Western Kentucky looks to keep momentum going]

After a 59-0 drubbing at Marshall last Saturday, Eastern Kentucky returns to the Mountaineer state to face Neal Brown and West Virginia for a noon game on Fox Sports 1. Brown, the former UK offensive coordinator, went 5-7 last year in his first season as head coach at WVU.

Fox was to feature Baylor’s opener against Louisiana Tech for its noon game on Saturday. Alas, the game has been postponed by a COVID-19 outbreak at Louisiana Tech. Fox will show Arkansas State at Kansas State instead.

ABC’s prime-time game has No. 1-ranked Clemson at Wake Forest for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Trevor Lawrence returns at quarterback to lead Clemson. Wake Forest went 8-5 last season, but lost quarterback Jamie Newman, who transferred to Georgia only to opt out of the 2020 season.

Remember, SEC football doesn’t begin until Sept. 26. Kentucky is at Auburn for the league’s Week 1.
