Brandon Miller scored 24 points to lead Crimson Tide’s comeback. Bama prevailed despite going 3-for-22 from three-point land. Arkansas lost despite 24 points from freshman Nick Smith, who had scored 26 points in the Razorbacks’ rout of Georgia.
Mississippi State 69, Texas A&M 62: The Aggies suffered their first February loss and just third loss in conference play. Mississippi State held the Aggies to 39.5 percent shooting from the floor. And the Bulldogs won despite making just 3 of their 21 three-point attempts. Tolu Smith led the way with 17 points.
Kentucky 86, Auburn 54: Kentucky played arguably its most complete game of the season. Oscar Tshiebwe was held to just four rebounds last week at Florida. The UK center had 22 points and 17 rebounds Saturday. Auburn shot just 33.9 percent from the floor. Tigers’ point guard Wendell Green was just 3 of 12 from the field against Kentucky’s taller guards.
Tennessee 85, South Carolina 45: Tennessee snapped out of its slump to smash South Carolina by 40 points. Josiah-Jordan James returned to score 18 points. He was 4 of 7 from three. As a team, the Vols were 10 of 23 from behind the arc. Rick Barnes’ team shot 58.1 percent overall. South Carolina missed 18 of its 22 three-point attempts. UT had trounced Carolina 85-42 in Columbia in January.
Missouri 85, Georgia 63: Georgia’s free fall continues. The Bulldogs have lost their last three games by 49, 32 and 32. Missouri trailed 41-40 at the half, then rolled in the second. The Tigers were 14 of 28 on three-pointer and shot 57.9 percent overall. Dmoi Hodge was 6 of 11 from behind the arc for Dennis Gates.
Vanderbilt 88, Florida 72: Vandy clinched at least a break-even season in league play with the win over the Gators. All five starters scored in double figures for the Commodores, who shot 51.7 percent. Jerry Stackhouse’s team also went 10 of 24 from three. Florida lost its third straight game since center Colin Castleton broke his right hand.
Ole Miss 82, LSU 69: In its first game after coach Kermit Davis was fired, the Rebels handled LSU in Oxford. Acting coach Win Davis saw Ole Miss shoot 55.2 percent from the floor. Jaemyn Brakefield scored 23 points with 10 rebounds. LSU’s win streak stopped at one as the Tigers failed to follow up on the Tigers’ 84-77 win over Vanderbilt last Wednesday.
