College football games on television for Saturday (Aug. 26)

The 2023 college football season officially kicks off Saturday with a smattering of games. But hey, it’s still football.

Notre Dame and Navy from Dublin, Ireland, is first in line. This is the second season for Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and the first for former Lawrence County and UK receiver Gerad Parker as the Irish’s offensive coordinator. NBC has the 2:30 p.m. telecast.

Vanderbilt is the first SEC team in action. After a 5-7 season a year ago, the Commodores play host to Hawaii in pardon-our-mess FirstBank Stadium, currently under renovation. The SEC Network has the 7:30 p.m. start.

Peeking ahead, there are better offerings come Thursday. For instance, Florida is at No. 14 Utah as Gators Coach Billy Napier begins his second season. ESPN has that 8 p.m. game. New coach Matt Ruhle makes his Nebraska debut when the Cornhuskers travel to Minnesota for an 8 p.m. start on Fox.
