Liveblog: Southern Miss 44, Kentucky 35
Kentucky opens the 2016 college football season at home against Southern Miss on Saturday night at Commonwealth Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
Mark Stoops begins his fourth year as UK head coach. Stoops is 12-24 overall, but is 2-1 in openers. His Cats beat UL-Lafayette 40-33 in last season’s opening game.
Southern Miss is coming off a 9-5 season in which the Golden Eagles went 7-1 in Conference-USA and played in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. USM has a highly-regarded quarterback in Nick Mullens, but a new offensive coordinator in Shannon Dawson, who just happened to be Kentucky’s OC a year ago.
