Dog-friendly restaurant coming to Hamburg; second Taziki’s opening

One of the signature items at Double Dogs is Bo’s Dog Bowl Nachos, made with homemade chili, Italian sausage, beans, cheeses, and more. Other appetizers included “pickled paw prints,” which are fried dill pickle chips. More traditional fare, including wings, pizza, sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs also is available.

Double Dogs, a dog-themed restaurant (tag line “Sit. Stay. Eat.”) that has a family- and dog-friendly atmosphere is coming to Lexington.

Double Dogs will open in mid- to late September at one end of a new restaurant row going in at 1916 Justice Drive.

At the other end will be a Taziki’s Mediterranean Café, the second location of the Greek-style restaurant.

In between will be two more as-yet unidentified restaurants, according to a listing for the center.

John Morrison, vice president of operations for Double Dogs, said the restaurant should open “right in the middle of football season.” It will be open for lunch and dinner, with take-out ordering available online.

The Kentucky-based chain got its start in Bowling Green. This will be the sixth restaurant, following Louisville, Nashville and Knoxville.

“The neighborhood right behind us is key,” Morrison said of Hamburg. “Our menu is family style, with good fresh food.”

Menu items include Bo’s Dog Bowl Nachos, plus sandwiches, burgers, pizza and, yes, hot dogs. The restaurant also will have a full bar with craft beer and wine.

And you can bring your dog.

“We’re dog-friendly on the patio,” he said.

Taziki’s will open later this month. The first one, on Southland Drive, opened in April 2016.

The new Taziki’s will be 3,200 square feet and will have a covered patio.

“I am thrilled to open a second Taziki’s in Lexington,” owner Mike Scanlon said in a news release. “We can’t wait to introduce even more of the Kentucky community to the delicious and healthy food of Taziki’s.”

The menu features healthy food inspired by a Mediterranean diet, including gyros, salads and hummus, grilled and baked chicken, and grilled lamb and vegetables. The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner, with catering also available.

To celebrate the grand opening of the second store, Taziki’s is donating $60,000 to build a house with Lexington Habitat for Humanity, according to the news release.
