Popular Romany Road eatery closes despite nearby schools, Coach Cal
Orange Leaf on Romany Road closed over the weekend.
In a post on its Facebook page, Orange Leaf said Sunday was its last day. The Orange Leaf frozen yogurt stores in Hamburg, near Fayette Mall and in Palomar remain open.
According to comments on the posting, the store didn’t do enough business to stay open. Customers, especially those from nearby schools, lamented the closing.
The Romany Road store opened in 2011 in a location of a popular Graeter’s Ice Cream. The frozen yogurt chain quickly expanded in Lexington and in the state, with University of Kentucky men’s basketball coach John Calipari as an investor.
The coach, who frequents the Wheeler’s Pharmacy lunch counter across the road, touted Orange Leaf on social media.
