The front door of the Republican Party of Fayette County office on Southland Drive was shattered overnight, according to police.

Officers were called to the local Republican headquarters about 2:30 a.m. for a report of criminal mischief, according to police. When officers arrived, they found a small metal dumbbell inside the shattered glass door.

It appears someone used the dumbbell to cause the damage, police said. It is unclear what time the damage occurred, according to police.

The damage was reported shortly before president-elect Donald Trump was announced the winner of the 2016 presidential election.
