Rainbow-colored crosswalks celebrate diversity
The crosswalks at the intersection of Limestone and Short streets were painted in rainbow colors early Tuesday morning.
“This is part of our continuing focus to help make downtown Lexington a more walkable, bikeable and vibrant place,” said Lisa Adkins, president and CEO of Blue Grass Community Foundation, which is sponsoring the crosswalks through a grant from the Knight Foundation Donor Advised Charitable Fund at the Community Foundation.
The crosswalks are being added right before the June 24 Pride Festival. They are intended to celebrate the city’s rich diversity, Adkins said.
They’re also an important pedestrian safety improvement at a busy intersection, especially in the summer months when there are a number of festivals held in the Courthouse Plaza, which is located at that intersection.
