Family, friends mourn slain teen who was ‘funniest, goofiest, tallest person I’ve ever met’
They played basketball and would talk for hours. He jokingly called her a benchwarmer because he showed up to a basketball game where she wasn’t allowed to play.
Micah Gates, 15, smiled as she remembered her best friend, Floyd Dunn III, 16, who was shot late Saturday night and died Sunday.
“He was the most funniest, goofiest, tallest person I’ve ever met,” Gates said.
Gates was among those gathered at Charles Young Park for a candlelight vigil honoring Dunn. People wore orange and yellow — Dunn’s favorite colors — and carried balloons.
Dunn is one of 19 homicide victims in Lexington this year and one of two people killed within 12 hours of each other. Jerome Wadsworth, 28, of Michigan was the other. There have not been any arrests in either case.
Gates said she was still shocked by Dunn’s death and said she hoped people would put their guns down and come together as a community.
“I hope this does change everyone,” Gates said. “Because a good person left too soon.”
