The Lexington Humane Society is asking for help as they take on 24 dogs that have been displaced by Hurricane Harvey.

These are not the first animals rescued from this season’s hurricanes that have been brought to the Lexington Humane Society, and they probably won’t be the last, the group posted on Facebook. The most recent transport of dogs arrived Monday, and they will be up for adoption or put into foster homes in the next few days.

The dogs had already been in animal shelters in and around Houston when the hurricane hit, said Ashley Marcum, special events coordinator for the humane society.

Between Monday and Oct. 27, any donation made to the humane society will be matched dollar for dollar up to $25,000 by an anonymous donor in the community, Marcum said in an email. Donations can be sent to the humane society at 1600 Old Frankfort Pike or by visiting AdoptLove.net.

“Through everyone’s support we are able to help homeless animals not only in our own community but those communities being affected in the South,” Marcum said.
