The Downtown Lexington Corp. has tapped a longtime employee as its interim director after its executive director announced last month that she is leaving.

Kathryn Minton, who has worked for the nonprofit since 2007, will be the interim executive director and president starting Sept. 24, the Downtown Lexington board announced Friday.

Minton has held several jobs at the organization and has been vice president for business development for five years. Minton will replace Renee Shepard, who had been director of the organization that promotes downtown and produces popular downtown events, such as Thursday Night Live. Shepard announced last month that she is leaving the organization after a decade to take another job.

Minton has a master’s degree in business administration from Midway University and a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Kentucky.

“I am thankful for Renee’s leadership, and the opportunity I have had working with her and learning from her,” Minton said in a written statement.

The DLC will continue focusing on “enhancing downtown Lexington as a unique and vibrant destination to live, work and play,” she said.
