University of Kentucky linebacker Eli Brown is transferring.
“Being a UK Wildcat was an honor and a privilege,” Brown tweeted Friday night. “I learned a lot about myself as well as the game of football. My time as a Wildcat has come to an end. But I’m walking away a better athlete and better young man. UK will forever be in my heart.”
A former Warren East High School star who would have been a junior at UK this fall, Brown was the Cats’ second-string weakside linebacker behind Jordan Jones. He made 38 tackles, including two for a loss, for the Wildcats this past season.
Kentucky Coach Mark Stoops told the Herald-Leader recently that he was pondering putting Jones and Brown on the field together some next season, but he added that he had some concerns about them not being big enough to slide in at middle linebacker.
Never miss a local story.
Brown was a four-star recruit by all four major recruiting services, and he was selected for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He chose Kentucky over Ohio State, Mississippi, Penn State, Louisville, Western Kentucky and Vanderbilt.
