Three-star wide receiver Clevan Thomas commits to Kentucky

A day after wrapping up their on-campus summer football camp schedule, the Kentucky Wildcats landed another commitment for the class of 2017.

Three-star wide receiver Clevan Thomas committed to the Cats on Monday, less than 24 hours after competing in the program’s Sunday Night Lights Camp at Commonwealth Stadium.

The 6-foot, 190-pound prospect from Pembroke Pines, Fla., chose Kentucky over Syracuse and Vanderbilt, though he told 247Sports on Monday that he still plans to take an official visit to Vandy during the course of his recruitment.

Thomas’ highest position ranking comes from Rivals.com, which pegs him as the No. 75 wide receiver in the class of 2017. Scout.com, ESPN and 247Sports don’t rank him among the nation’s top 100 receivers, but all three of those recruiting services do designate him as a three-star prospect.

Thomas — the son of former Florida State player Clevan Thomas — caught eight touchdown passes for Flanagan High School last fall and earned a UK scholarship offer shortly after the season ended. He projects as a slot receiver in college and is the third wide receiver to join the Wildcats’ recruiting class, which already included four-star prospect JaVonte Richardson and three-star recruit Josh Ali.

UK’s 11-player class is now ranked No. 40 nationally, according to Rivals.com.

The Cats are still targeting four-star wide receiver Danny Davis, an Ohio native who also visited Lexington for Sunday night’s camp. Rivals.com ranks Davis — a 6-2 prospect — as the No. 15 wide receiver in the class of 2017.
