Scott County cruises into third straight 11th Region championship
Scott County, the defending region champ, reached its third straight finals with a 79-43 victory over Lafayette on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Michael Moreno, the 11th Region Player of the Year, had 22 points and 10 rebounds in 24 minutes for the Cardinals. He went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line, who were 14 of 15 overall from the stripe.
Diablo Stewart, also a junior, had 14 points, eight assists and six rebounds in 22 minutes for Scott County, which has not lost to an in-state opponent this season.
Ray Surratt, a 6-foot-8 sophomore, led Lafayette with nine points and made two of his attempts from beyond the arc.
“Boy, he’s got a big upside to him,” Scott County Coach Billy Hicks said. “Lafayette’s got a gem in him. He’s gonna be a good one.”
Cameron King and Eric Powell, the Generals’ other two leading scorers, finished with five points on 2-for-8 shooting. Evan Dreux was 1-for-9 for two points.
“Glenn (Covington) did a good job of containing Dreux, and what it done, it enabled us to not give King and Powell any set threes,” Hicks said.
