As second Lexington Publix sets opening date, what is status of 2 planned stores?
Two of the four planned Publix grocery stores in central Kentucky have now either opened or announced an opening date.
But what about the other two stores?
The first Lexington Publix store on Stockton Way, just off Citation Boulevard, opened March 5. The second Publix store in Lexington, located on Fountainblue Lane in the Fountains at Palomar, is scheduled to have a grand opening at 7 a.m. June 4.
The other two planned Publix stores are in the Romany Road/Chevy Chase area and Nicholasville.
Jared Glover, a spokesperson for Publix, said Tuesday there are no updates about potential opening dates for those two stores.
And if the first two Central Kentucky openings are any indication, there won’t be an opening date announcement until about a month before the stores are open for good.
Publix is an employee-owned, Florida-based grocery store chain known for its signature deli sandwiches, called Pub Subs.
The Herald-Leader conducted a price comparison experiment and found relatively higher prices at Publix, though Publix fans often say the quality and selection, clean facilities and customer service are well worth the trade-off.
The Stockton Way store also offers many other services, including a pharmacy, online ordering and floral services.
