Lexington Mayor Gorton postpones state of city speech after snowstorm

Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton postponed her annual state of the city speech due to Winter Storm Fern, which has blanketed much of Central Kentucky with both ice and snow.

Gorton was slated to give her annual address in front of the Lexington Forum, a local civics group, on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Central Bank Center.

The annual address typically recaps city priorities for the past year and looks ahead to the coming year.

Due to the winter storm, city officials said Sunday the annual address will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Central Bank Center.

The city, University of Kentucky and Fayette County Public School officials have also canceled other activities planned for Monday, Jan. 26. City officials have suspended garbage pickup, UK and Fayette County Public Schools have canceled classes due to icy, snow-packed roads and freezing temperatures.
