University of Kentucky alerts students of new report of rape inside residence hall

A female resident reported to the University of Kentucky Police Department that she was raped inside a residence hall early Friday, according to a campus alert send to students and employees.

The victim knew the suspect, according to the crime bulletin.

The woman was raped by a male guest just after midnight, police said.

The report is the latest of multiple incidents of sexual assault on campus this school year.

UK Police Chief Joe Monroe said “none of the cases are connected, and all of the offenders were known to the victims.”

“We hope the ongoing outreach of the UK Police Department in partnership with the Violence Intervention and Prevention Center and the Title IX Office has resulted in an environment where more people feel supported in reporting sexual assault crimes at UK,” Monroe said in an email Friday night. “Sexual assaults are among the most under-reported crimes on college campuses, and that’s why it’s important we continue our outreach and provide victim-survivors with the resources they need.”

There were 28 reports of sexual offenses on campus during 2018, up from 21 the year before, according to UK’s 2018 campus safety and security report.
