Popular Lexington bourbon, wine bar and store closing. You can still get a pour, bottles
A popular local wine and bourbon bar is closing its doors after more than a decade. But if you hurry, you’ll still be able to sample their goods.
The owners of Cork & Barrel announced that they are closing the Nicholasville Rd. store in mid-November.
Jim and Bev Taylor said in an email that they have decided not to renew their lease.
“We have been in the wine/bourbon business now for over a decade — following successful individual careers before. As much as we love the wine and bourbon bar dynamic, it takes a tremendous toll on any personal time,” they said. “We’re now ready to spend some time with our new granddaughter, do some traveling ... and maybe, even enjoy a dinner out occasionally!!”
They said they have renewed the lease on the Cork & Barrel shop in Blue Grass Airport, which they opened in 2017, and will keep it going. That location carries bourbon, wine and craft beer as well as bourbon-related items.
The Taylors said they opened their wine and bourbon shop in 2008 as a “friendly, low-key setting to help others learn about and love wine as much as we do.”
The shop will stay open through Nov. 13, and the wine bar will continue serving drinks and weekend specials. One final meeting of their Wine Club is planned for November.
Beginning immediately, the store will be selling off inventory with no quantity limits. All wine and packaged food items will be discounted, as will accessories and gift items.
No discounts on bourbon, however. Remaining bourbon stocks will move to the airport location.
