Jack Daniel’s latest special release is the brand’s highest proof whiskey ever
Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey is releasing its highest proof whiskey ever: A new single barrel special release is coming to store shelves.
Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release Coy Hill High Proof is the strongest whiskey that the Lynchburg, Tenn., distillery has ever sold, according to the company. It is bottled at barrel strength at 137.4 to 148.3 proof.
For comparison, regular black label Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 is 80 proof. It’s owned by Louisville-based Brown-Forman and is the biggest selling American whiskey in the world.
The release is named for the highest hill on the Jack Daniel Distillery property, where this whiskey was aged on the top ricks of the oldest barrel houses. That gives the Tennessee whiskey “an aroma of seared oak and dark brown sugar with flavors of bold baking spices and a lingering finish of toffee, smoke and rich leather,” according to the tasting notes.
“The Coy Hill High Proof is all about pushing the limit for single barrel maturation to create one of our boldest, most innovative whiskeys we have ever released,” said Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Chris Fletcher in a press release. “It highlights one of the unique attributes of the Jack Daniel Distillery – the dry air of the highest floors of the barrel houses – and the amazing impact it has on whiskey making.”
It’s scheduled to hit shelves this month with a suggested retail price of $70.
