Bourbon & Bars

Keeneland, Maker’s Mark announce newest commemorative bourbon bottle: How to get one.

The days of lining up at Keeneland for the annual Maker’s Mark bottle signing aren’t returning any time soon.

This year the bourbon distillery and the track again are releasing three pre-signed bottles that will feature art by Thoroughbred racing artists Sandra Oppegard, Andre Pater and Tyler Robertson.

The three labels will come pre-signed by Keeneland president and CEO Shannon Arvin, Maker’s Mark managing director Rob Samuels and one of three top female jockeys: Julie Krone, Rosie Napravnik or Donna Barton Brothers. They are the winningest female jockeys in Keeneland history, according to the news release.

How can fans buy these popular bottles? This year’s collectible bottles will go on sale at Liquor Barn stores and other retailers in the Lexington area on April 8, the first day of the Keeneland Spring Meet. Fans are expected to line up outside the stores to buy bottles for their collections.

Sales will benefit LexArts’ upcoming Horse Mania public art project. Last year’s pre-signed LexArts bottles supported the Isaac Murphy Memorial Art Garden in Lexington, the first park in the U.S. to honor Black jockeys.

The 2022 Maker’s Mark collectible bottle will be available beginning April 8, the first day of the Keeneland Spring Meet, at Liquor Barn stores in Lexington. There will be no bottle signing event this year. The bottles will be pre-signed.

“No other public art initiative in our city’s history has captured the hearts and imaginations of Lexingtonians and visitors like Horse Mania,” said Ame Sweetall, LexArts president and CEO. “Public art is a hallmark of all great American cities and LexArts is thrilled to have the support of two iconic Kentucky brands, Keeneland and Maker’s Mark, in bringing Horse Mania to the streets of Lexington once again.”

Keeneland and Maker’s Mark have collaborated on commemorative bottle releases since 1997, raising millions for worthy causes throughout Central Kentucky.
