Goodbye, gumbo: Lexington bar, restaurant closing after 7 years. What’s next?
A downtown Lexington bar known for its jazzy vibe and New Orleans flavor is closing because the owners have sold the building.
Creaux, at 310 W. Short St., announced its last day will be June 30.
“No tears, and no long story. Just a simple thank you, to Lexington, for supporting us for 7 years,” owners David “Dougie” and Ieasha Allen and Stephen Scaldaferri posted on social media.
“We are thrilled to be able to pass on this amazing property to a group of local entrepreneurs with great reputations, talent, and a real love for Lexington.”
Ieasha Allen said they cannot disclose any details about the buyers of the property yet. The sale price has not yet been recorded with the Fayette County Property Valuation Administrator’s office.
The partnership had listed the building at 310-312 W. Short St. with Chris Mitchell at Bluegrass Sotheby’s International Realty for $1.35 million, including the business.
But the business is not part of this sale, so whatever is coming in will be a new concept.
Ieasha Allen said they are retaining the rights to the Creaux name and concept and may reopen in a new location and format in the future.
“We’ve had requests and interest from out-of-town patrons to bring the concept to Louisville, Cincinnati, Nashville and Atlanta,” Allen said. “While we are not focused on doing so at the time, we haven’t ruled out the possibility. It is just best for all of us to focus on our individual projects and recalibrate Creaux as a brand, before making a decision.”
Allen is expecting to open her private social club, The Melroy, around the corner on North Broadway in August.
