Woodford Reserve releases highest proof bourbon yet, Chocolate Whisper Redux
Woodford Reserve, Brown-Forman’s premium Kentucky bourbon, is bringing back a chocolate bomb of a bourbon, and this time it’s their highest proof release yet.
Chocolate Whisper Redux 139.4 is part of the Distillery Series. It’s the brand’s highest proof offering so far at 139.4 proof. Suggested retail price is $99.99.
And it’s special another way: It’s a 12-year-old version of the bourbon originally released in 2021 as Chocolate Whisper.
The Distillery Series was created as a way for Woodford Reserve’s distillers to experiment and provide limited releases primarily available to visitors at the distillery.
How does this Woodford Reserve taste?
“It is exciting to see how Chocolate Whisper Redux evolved since its initial release in 2021,” said master distiller Elizabeth McCall in the news release. “A longer barrel age has enhanced its bold flavor notes while preserving the long finish.”
Now, with additional years in the barrel, the bourbon has more complexity and a richer chocolate and coffee flavor, according to Woodford Reserve.
According to her tasting notes, it has a nose of chocolate, toasted oak, clove and nutmeg. On the palate, it’s cacao nib, dark roasted coffee, dried cherry and cranberry and charred oak, with a finish of candied pecan and rich oak.
