Here are some new releases to look for, all available in time for the holidays.
Donner & Blitzen, Whiskey Thief
Whiskey Thief Distillery in Franklin County has released Donner & Blitzen, a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey aged “in a barrel that rested cinnamon,” according to a news release.
It’s an 8-year bourbon that was aged for three years in the cinnamon barrel.
Bottled at 100 proof, it doesn’t taste like Red hots, but more like bourbon-y Christmas cinnamon toast, according to the release.
It’s a limited release, available for $75 for a 375mL bottle at the distillery gift shop and in Louisville locations.
Four Roses smaller sizes
Four Roses Bourbon has launched smaller sizes of its Small Batch and Small Batch Select.
The 375mL versions of these popular bourbons are hitting shelves now to give price-conscious customers a chance to get better bourbons at an affordable price.
Bourbon makers have been noticing financially strapped customers “trading down” to smaller sizes, rather than giving up their favorite brands entirely.
The Small Batch suggested retail price is $18.99; the Small Batch Select suggested retail price is $28.99.
They will be available at select retailers nationwide.
Wilderness Trail Distillery 10 Year Wheat
Wilderness Trail Distillery in Danville has released a limited-edition 10-year-old wheated bourbon to celebrate the 250th anniversary of The Wilderness Road, the historic Kentucky trail that played a pivotal role in America’s westward expansion.
This is the second public release of a 10-year-old bourbon from Wilderness Trail. It is a barrel-proof small-batch bourbon available only at the Wilderness Trail Distillery Visitor Center.
It features a unique mash bill never before bottled by Wilderness Trail, with a recipe of 51% corn, 45% wheat and 4% malted barley.
For this commemorative edition, Wilderness Trail Distillery co-founder and chief scientific officer Dr. Pat Heist and his distilling team hand-selected three standout 10-year-old barrels, each showcasing unique character and resulting in a distinguished, balanced, barrel-proof small batch offering that highlights depth, maturity, and refined complexity, according to the news release.
“We intended for this release to embody the same balance, character, and discovery that defined the Wilderness Road itself,” Heist said in a news release. “These barrels represent ten years of patience and precision, and this blend has resulted in a bourbon with incredible harmony that showcases deep oak, vivid sweetness, and a finish that lingers.”
Wilderness Trail also recently launched three private barrel offerings of its six-year-old expressions — Wheated Bourbon, High Rye and Rye — available in January. The 6-year-old Wheated Bourbon also is available for pre-order online at reservebar.com.
