Georgetown-based Country Boy Brewing announced it is launching a distillery.
The new Country Boy Distilling will be the first production distillery in Scott County since the repeal of Prohibition, according to a news release.
It will be at 6325 Cincinnati Road in Sadieville, the former location of Hi-View Meats & Groceries, a long-time popular butcher in northern Scott County.
“This place is close to my heart, I grew up stopping there every week,” said Daniel “DH” Harrison, founder and brand manager at Country Boy Brewing. “Being able to plant our distillation roots in Sadieville means a lot to the family that is Country Boy Brewing.”
Country Boy plans initially to produce vodka, gin and apple brandy, beginning in the fall, in the 1,300-square-foot facility. The new spot will have a small still and a small bar for tasting cocktails and Country Boy beer.
“We worked with Vendome to create a custom 100-gallon still,” said Tyler Gomez, director of distillation for Country Boy Brewing, in the news release. “This has been two years in the making, and we are all really excited to see that first batch in the bottle.”
The products will be for sale at the distillery as well as Country Boy Brewing’s taprooms in Georgetown and Lexington, with plans to add distribution to stores in Central Kentucky, according to Pete Weiss, Country Boy spokesman.
Weiss said that Country Boy plans eventually to add aged spirits including bourbon. “There is a plan to grow into bourbon,” he said. “If we get into bourbon, it will be sourced initially. We’ll get this open and running and see what the demand is like.”
Country Boy plans to join the Kentucky Distillers’ Association and the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, according to the release.
