A meal with a view: Eight stories up at City Center’s rooftop restaurant

There’s a new place to view downtown Lexington.

And grab a bite to eat while you soak up the sights — eight stories up that is.

With the City Center Marriott and Residence Inn hotels open on Main and Vine, the Infinity: Skybar and Cafe is open to the public as well as hotel patrons.

Here’s a First Bite/First Look review of Infinity as the LexGoEat.com staff went to lunch there recently.

If you’re looking for the perfect place to get your Vitamin D and stave off the winter blues even if it’s chilly, Infinity has you covered.

The cafe and bar are on top of the Residence Inn, with a view of Main Street through the glass walls. In warmer weather, the walls and the ceiling panels retract, so you can catch the breeze too.

The lunch menu is elevated sandwiches, soups and salads, such as the Bluegrass Burger, a gourmet burger with house pickles, secret sauce and a bioche bun that one colleague had.

Another ordered fish tacos but was brought the fried catfish sandwich by mistake. After a bit of confusion over the brioche bun not being a corn tortilla, he said the fish was delicious. The sandwich came with chow chow and green goddess dressing, which he said was tasty.

The Provencal sandwich was the lone vegetarian option on the lunch menu. With roasted red pepper & tomato, olive relish, marinated artichoke, ricotta and focaccia, it also was tasty.

All of us had fries, which were crispy but needed salt.

The hotels officially opened to the public on Jan. 8, so Infinity as well as The Greatroom in the lobby of the Marriott are open to anyone.

Infinity’s dinner menu is larger, with appetizers, shareables, soups and salads and main dishes. Appetizers included fried cauliflower, grilled octopus, fried chicken livers and roasted bone marrow. Or go with shareable boiled peanut hummus, fried chicken or the dry-rubbed chicharron trio.

The mains ranged from pan-seared catfish to an 18-ounce bone-in grilled pork chop.

There’s also a cocktail menu that incorporates lots of Kentucky spirits including Maker’s Mark and Woodford Reserve bourbons, but also Castle & Key and Town Branch gins.

Infinity: Skybar and Cafe is open for lunch and dinner. Reservations are not required. The restaurant also has doors to the hotel’s rooftop pool but patrons can get to the pool without walking through.
