Coronavirus won’t keep a popular Lexington donut chain from finishing March Madness

March Madness was canceled because of the coronavirus, but Donut Madness is in full swing.

North Lime Coffee & Donuts’ annual event pitting its confections against one another started earlier this month and is now in the round of 16. One donut — French Toast — has already advanced to the Elite Eight.

North Lime, which operates three locations — one on North Limestone Street, another on Clays Mill Road and one in Louisville — solicited brackets before the tournament got underway March 3. It posts reminders and updates daily about each match-up on its Facebook page.

Whichever specialty donut in the daily match-up is purchased on a given day is a vote to determine the winner. The tournament started March 3 and will run to April 6 with donut specials facing off every day.

And before the tournament got underway, customers could fill out a bracket with the hope to win prizes. The overall winner will get a $150 North Lime gift card.

The stores are offering curbside pickup only at this time in order to comply with Gov. Andy Beshear’s executive order regarding restaurants during the COVID-19 pandemic. Orders can be made in advance online at northlimeorders.net or via phone (859-303-6114).
