The largest hot chicken brand in the U.S. is set to open its second Lexington location
Even during a pandemic, people are going to need hot chicken. Now Louisville-based Joella’s Hot Chicken is opening a second Lexington location to feed the need.
The restaurant at 2305 Sir Barton Way in Hamburg will open on Nov. 23, with carry-out, delivery and outdoor seating, in line with new COVID-19 restrictions announced by Gov. Andy Beshear on Nov. 18.
The new restaurant in Hamburg replaces a Blaze pizza restaurant that closed before the pandemic hit. It will open its dining room to guests on when restrictions are lifted. Beshear has said that the restrictions will be in place through Dec. 13.
A grand opening is scheduled for Dec. 1 and Joella’s also plans to keep the tradition of giving away free hot chicken for a year to the first 100 guests, but it will be a bit different this time.
Customers will stay in their cars to line up, according to a news release.
The car line will form behind the balloon arch outside the front entrance of Joella’s facing Sir Barton Way. Guests will remain inside their vehicles the entire time, and the free meal vouchers will be awarded at 6 a.m. on Dec. 1 to the first 100 adults with ID in the line.
The Hamburg Joella’s will open for normal hours for carry-out, delivery and outdoor dining beginning at 11 a.m. that day.
This will be the 18th location for Joella’s, which features fried chicken with a varying level of spice, made-from-scratch sides and desserts. There also is a Joella’s on Cochran and Tates Creek in Lexington. The fast-casual chain is now the largest hot chicken brand in the U.S.
