Sneak peek: Popular Louisville brewpub opening in Lexington Green for lunch, dinner

The new Goodwood Brewery restaurant is opening at Lexington Green this month.

And we’ve got a sneak peek.

The Lexington location of the popular Louisville brewery won’t quite be ready to brew beer yet, said Chris Sparks, director of restaurant operations for Goodwood.

“Getting the brewery system during COVID has been a challenge,” he said.

But the restaurant, which is in the former Mellow Mushroom location just off Reynolds Road, will be ready to go on Dec. 14.

“We’re opening one way or another,” he said.

Kentucky restaurants have been closed for dining in for three weeks, at the recommendation of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, in an attempt to mitigate the spread of the virus, which threatens to overrun the health care system with new cases.

But the restrictions expire after Dec. 13. So many restaurants are preparing to welcome customers back inside, at least in some capacity.

“We have an outdoor seating area,” Sparks said. “But I’m under the assumption the state is going to open back up to indoor dining. Our plan is to open Monday at noon.”

Beginning Dec. 14, the restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner. The menu will be the same as in Frankfort, where Goodwood has a brewpub downtown.

Starters include fried green tomatoes, pretzels with beer cheese, Buffalo cauliflower, black eyed pea hummus and brisket “totchos.” Soup and salads are available, including a bourbon barrel stout chili.

For lunch there’s the Goodwood Burger with fried pickled jalapenos, pimento cheese and bacon, and a drunken chicken sandwich made with bourbon bacon jam and Louisville Lager beer cheese.

There are vegetarian and vegan offerings, including a farmers market wrap with roasted carrots, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, red onion, sunflower seeds, romaine and a sorghum vinaigrette. A black bean burger and mac ‘n cheese melt made with beer cheese are also on the menu.

Sides include fries seasoned with a house bbq spice, cheesy grits, spicy braised collards, sauteed brussels, beer mac ‘n cheese and grilled asparagus.

For dinner, Goodwood also has mains including shrimp and grits, fish and chips, bourbon glaze salmon, blackened catfish, grilled teres major steak, bourbon brined pork chop and chicken and waffles.

Goodwood specializes in beer “touched by wood” and offers a lineup of its options on draft, plus rotating seasonals and ciders. You can also buy four- and six-packs and get a growler filled. The restaurant has a full bar with cocktails plus a bourbon and rye collection.
