Turnover in Lexington restaurants means something is always closing and something else is always opening. And sometimes it does not take long.

A new restaurant has opened at 1395 W. Main St., less than a year after the last new restaurant, The Chatino Buffet Chinese & Mexican Food, opened there. Before that, it had been the Yummy Yummy Chinese restaurant for several years.

El Taquero Mexican Restaurant opened in the Meadowthorpe neighborhood Jan. 18 with a menu of popular favorites such as burritos, enchiladas and fajitas, as well as street tacos, tortas and more traditional fare, according to manager Rufino Cruz.

He said the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, with both dining in and take out.

Cruz said the restaurant is an offshoot of the popular Mexican restaurant chain El Nopal, which has locations in Louisville as well as Indiana and Ohio.

He said the restaurant has applied for a liquor license and expects to be able to serve beer, margaritas and other drinks beginning next month.
