Is there room in Lexington for yet another crab boil place? We will find out later this year.

A new chain, The Saucy Crab, is moving into town. The restaurant will be coming to 3029 Richmond Rd., the former Texas Roadhouse location left vacant when the steakhouse built a larger restaurant on the other side of the street.

Owner Sinta Tjahjadi said Tuesday that seafood boil is one of the hottest trends in dining right now.

“A long time ago, it was Japanese steakhouses and now they go to seafood. Fifteen years ago it was all buffets,” she said. “Now every body wants to open the boil.”

And she should know, this will be her sixth Saucy Crab, joining others in Illinois and Michigan. She also owns several Koi Express Hibachi and Sushi restaurants, including ones in London and Frankfort.

This will be the first Saucy Crab in Kentucky. But hardly the first crab place in Lexington, which already boasts Shaking Seafood and Wings, Storming Crab Seafood, Mr. Krabs & Bean’s BBQ and Seafood Lady.

Tjahjadi said that the Lexington Saucy Crab is expected to open later this summer after the 8,000-square-foot building is completely remodeled.

She is planning for a sit-down restaurant but with a crab boil menu. Customers will be able to pick their seafood, then select a seasoning style and a spiciness level.

“We’ll have oysters, mussels, crab, king crab, everything,” she said.
