New restaurant taking over old Shakespeare, Rossi’s, Pacific Pearl, spot on Chinoe

A new Mexican restaurant is coming to a spot in Chinoe that has been vacant since 2017.

El Azteca Mexican Grill will be opening at 1060 Chinoe Road.

NAI Isaac announced that it has leased a 7,042-square-foot space to the family-owned local restaurant.

“El Azteca Mexican Grill is thrilled to open its doors this summer at Chinoe Shopping Center,” owner Azuncena Leon said in the release. “We know how beautiful and convenient the center is to Lexington and we can’t wait to contribute to it.”

The space has been home to many restaurants over the years, including Shakespeare & Co., Rossi’s and Pacific Pearl.

Shakespeare & Co. opened a location there in 2014 but closed it three years later. For a while, the space was available for banquets.

Before that, Rossi’s Restaurant occupied the Chinoe spot for about nine years, moving into the former home of Pacific Pearl after about five years in Chevy Chase. Rossi’s closed in 2013.

Pacific Pearl was one of the many popular restaurants created by the late Lucie Slone Meyers. She opened the upscale place, which had a menu of steak, seafood and chicken with an Asian/Pacific flair (Slone threw fancy luaus once a year), opened in 1997. It closed in 2004.
