There’s a new, larger-than-life cookie in Lexington. Here’s a sneak peek.

Get ready to pour out a tall cold one. Glass of milk, that is.

Because Crumbl Cookies is opening this week. And they will be giving away free samples of their warm, larger than life cookies.

The Utah-based gourmet cookie chain is opening its second Kentucky location (one opened recently in Louisville) in the Hamburg shopping center. Co-owners Sagar Leva and Ameet Patel have revamped a former retail space and turned it into a bakery.

“We baked our first batch yesterday and it was nothing short of amazing,” Leva said last Friday.

They will have a grand opening on May 20 and May 21 will be “Free Cookie Day.”

The Crumbl Cookies franchise is known for their fresh gourmet cookies. While their menu only includes four rotating cookie recipes with their chocolate chip and chilled sugar cookies always for sale, Lexington location store co-owner Sagar Leva believes the quality compensates for the limited options while reflecting on his first time experiencing Crumbl Cookies about a year and a half ago. “I would have never thought they (Crumbl Cookies) franchised it; it tasted like a local bakery that just absolutely perfected six cookies a week.”

Everyone who downloads the Crumbl app will get a free cookie — warm chocolate chip until they run out, and they will switch to whatever is on hand, Leva said.

How many cookies will they give away? “As many as people come,” he said. Some new Crumbl Cookies locations have given away as many as 10,000.

Suffice to say: Crumbl has a following.

Known for its large specialty flavors, Crumbl announces a menu of four different options every Sunday. For this week, they are Churro, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Berry Crunch and German Chocolate Cake, in addition to the chocolate chip and sugar cookies that are always available.

The six cookies being offered during the opening week of Crumbl Cookies’ Lexington location are Mixed Berry, Churro, Chilled Sugar, German Chocolate, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chip. Crumbl Cookies currently also sell water and milk and is looking forward to selling their ice cream to their Lexington shoppers in the near future.

Besides the free cookies, on Friday they also will have a DJ and will give away merchandise and gift cards, Leva said.

The small store is tucked between Lenscrafters and Party City just off of Sir Barton Way. But if you get lost, just use your nose and follow the wonderful smell of fresh-baked cookies.

Each cookie is about 5 inches across, made with 6 ounces of dough. A single cookie costs $3.50, a four-pack will be about $11.

The cookies are certainly big enough for sharing if you are so inclined. The chocolate chip comes with huge chunks of soft, slightly melted chocolate. But the real surprise is the iced sugar cookie, which comes chilled and tastes a lot better than you’d expect a “plain” cookie to be.

Other Crumbl flavors that could rotate onto the menu include Classic Peanut Butter, Confetti Cake, Muddy Buddy, Biscoff Lava, Funfetti, Snickerdoodle, Coconut Lime, Chocolate Caramel, Cranberry Vanilla, Nutella Sea Salt, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, Rocky Road, S’Mores, Orange Creamsicle and more. Altogether there are about 120 cookie options.

Later this summer, this location will add ice cream, which can be ordered to go with the cookies or separately. Delivery through DoorDash also will be available.
