A major West Coast burger chain is coming to Kentucky and has picked a spot for its first location in ... (checks notes) ... Winchester.

Fatburger, which bills itself as “The Last Great Hamburger Stand”, is bringing its cooked and made to order burgers from Beverly Hills to the foothills of the Appalachias.

The new restaurant is expected to open in mid-2022 at 1452 W. Lexington Ave. in a former Steak ’n Shake with a drive-thru, according to the chain.

Why Winchester, population 20,000 or so and not Lexington, with about 325,000, or Louisville, with more than 620,000?

“There isn’t a true fast casual burger option in the area and we saw an opportunity to bring our beloved, custom-built burgers to the area in addition to our world-famous chicken wings and proprietary wing sauces,” FAT Brands said in a statement.

This will be a dual concept with a Buffalo’s Express chicken wings restaurant. The Buffalo-style wings can be dressed with one of 13 house-made sauces. The restaurant also offers shareables such as dips, wraps and sandwiches, specialty tacos including Buffalo chicken and blackened grouper, as well as salads, rice bowls and more.

Buffalo’s Express, known for its world-famous chicken wings and proprietary wing sauces, will be in a dual concept location with Fatburger in Winchester.

What makes Fatburger stand out from other burger chains? According to the menu, the 60-year-old California chain serves hand-pressed beef patties, scratch-made onion rings, housemade chili and milkshakes.

The Classic Fatburger, which is a third of a pound of beef, can be stacked to an XXXL, a pound and a half of beef, potentially more than 2,000 calories in one burger.

If you’re looking for something leaner, Fatburger also has the Skinnyburger without a bun as well as a turkey burger, chicken sandwich, veggie burger and the Impossible burger.

Plus there are lots of other menu options: Gluten-free buns are available. Fries come in “fat” and “skinny,” as well as sweet potato. There also are chili dogs, chili cheese fries, and much more.

Milkshakes come in a Maui-banana, strawberry, chocolate, vanilla and Oreo Cookies & Ice Cream. There are also two vegan options: strawberry and vanilla.

Something for just about everybody coming, a short drive from Lexington and from Eastern Kentucky.
