Drive near Russell Cave and New Circle? Brace yourself for chicken-related delays
Heads up, drivers on Lexington’s north side: Beginning on Thursday there could be a new traffic obstacle near Russell Cave and New Circle Road.
A new Chick-fil-A restaurant is opening at 295 W. New Circle on Dec. 2.
Typically, the opening of a Chick-fil-A means big crowds, including people waiting overnight in hopes of winning free chicken.
But due to the COVID pandemic, the fast-food chain isn’t doing that right now. Instead, they have identified 100 local heroes making an impact in the Lexington community and will surprise them with free Chick-fil-A for a year, according to a news release.
Chick-fil-A also is donating $25,000 to Feeding American to use in the Lexington area to fight hunger, the company said.
The chain is known for its sandwiches and waffle fries, among other things, and often draws long lines.
But to help keep the traffic impact to a minimum, this new Lexington location will have something new: A redesigned drive-thru that could be one of the fastest in the country.
Franchise owner David Hall said last July that the restaurant, which is in the former Jalapeno’s Mexican Restaurant spot near the corner, will be one of the few to use a new configuration.
Instead of two lanes for ordering, merging into one lane for food pick up, Hall said this will have two separate drive-thru lanes all the way.
“It should be faster,” he said.
There will be entrances to the drive-thru off of New Circle Road as well as off of Russell Cave Road, which will be the main entrance, he said.
