Super cool new ice cream option opens in Lexington and it’s got a lot of buzz

A new dessert concept has opened at The Summit at Fritz Farm that should be perfect for those who like their sweets a little on the buzzy side.

Buzzed Bull Creamery, 111 Summit at Fritz Farm, opened Aug. 20; the chain restaurant originally hoped to open in spring of 2021 in a different Lexington location but COVID pandemic delays have meant changes.

It’s now in the former Steel City Pops location, near Shake Shack and Honeywood. The spot is on an artificial turf lawn, with picnic tables where you can sit outside and enjoy your treats.

Steel City Pops, one of the original tenants of the upscale shopping and dining center, closed in November 2021.

What does Buzzed Bull Creamery serve?

Buzzed Bull Creamery serves liquid nitrogen flash-frozen ice cream, milkshakes, cookie dough, ice cream sandwiches and specialty coffee drinks. Non-dairy vegan versions are available too. Alcohol can be added to ice cream, milk shakes or coffee drinks; options include bourbon and other whiskeys, vodka, tequila, rum or various liqueurs.

Although the shop specializes in alcohol-infused ice cream, you can also get any item without the alcohol at this family-friendly place.

The ice cream is made right in front of you, using liquid nitrogen to make it super cold instantly. About 20 flavors are listed but if you can think it up, Buzzed Bull can concoct it.

Buzzed Bull menu favorites

Ellen Kendrick, co-owner of the franchise, said that so far the menu favorites with grown-ups have been Tiger Stripe and Honey Bourbon Pecan ice cream.

Tiger Stripe is a chocolate ice cream with peanut butter and Reese’s cups mixed in and topped with a peanut butter topping. You can get it with or without alcohol mixed and that’s been running about fifty-fifty, she said.

“Honey Bourbon Pecan is favorite because people enjoy their bourbon, and we have a good selection of bourbons. I’ve noticed a lot of people pick a premium,” she said.

You can create your own dream dessert by picking the base (ice cream, milkshake flavor, mix-ins and toppings and alcohol if you prefer). The menu also includes several suggested combinations like the Dreamsicle with orange ice cream, cake batter, waffle cone pieces and whipped cream, with optional orange vodka.

Non-alcoholic menu options for kids

“Kids loving to watch the ice cream being made, and when we’re busy with all four mixers going, there are huge clouds of fog,” Kendrick said. “The kids really love that.”

Non-alcoholic versions of the Strawberry Shortcake, with strawberry ice cream, cake batter, graham crackers and whipped cream, as well as the Banana Split are sure winners. The big hits for kids, Kendrick said: Anything with gummy worms or M&Ms mixed in.
