New Lexington coffee shop has games, comics, large tables to keep the role-playing going
Winter blahs got you down? It’s hard not to feel the post-holiday glum creep in when it’s cold and dark.
So how about a new coffee shop to perk you up?
Even better, it comes with ice cream, games and comics, making it a nice lure to get you out of the house without going outside your comfort zone.
Chaotic Good: Coffee, Games and Comics opens Jan. 12 and will have a menu featuring a full coffee bar as well as scones and other baked goods from Martine’s Pastries and single-serve ice cream from Graeter’s, perfect for an affogato made with vanilla or chocolate ice cream in espresso, according to co-owner Jim Read.
The coffee shop hopes to be a hub for comics fans (including kids) and game players, with several large tables for role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, Settlers of Catan and more.
The tables are first come, first serve or you can book a reservation if your group wants to come back each week, he said.
Read said they also will have board games players can borrow and to try out in the shop. And the games will be for sale if you find a new one you like. The shop also will feature local artwork in house and on social media.
For now, the menu will be limited to coffee and pastries but could expand to more, he said.
Read said that he and partners Alex Campe and Marian Turner have been working on the idea for seven years.
“We really want to be a place that is for the Lexington community and is not corporate,” Read said. The name Chaotic Good is a reference to D&D but also to their shop style. “We’re just trying to do something good but it’s a little chaotic, because it’s just the three of us for now,” he said.
