Lexington restaurant spot empty since the pandemic is back. What’s on the new menu?
A new restaurant is coming to a former pizza spot in Lexington’s French Quarter Square that’s been empty for a while.
The Italian restaurant, known for its wood-fired pizza, opened as Crust around 2014 then Lexington restaurateur Kuni Toyoda changed the name to Bella Forna in 2019. But it never reopened after the pandemic closure in 2020 and the lease expired.
Now, Viva Mexico is opening Jan. 11, according to co-owner Jorge Gomez. He and his partner, Jasmine Chavez, have been renovating the space over the last few months.
Gomez said this week that they plan to serve authentic Mexican food as well as a little Tex-Mex. “We’ll give people what they like,” Gomez said.
This is his first venture on his own but Gomez said he’s worked in restaurants before.
They will open every day with for lunch and dinner with a full menu, including vegetarian items, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, chimichangas and more but without a liquor license yet. Gomez said they’re hoping that will come shortly.
