Lexington restaurant that started out downtown announces it’s closing for good

A Lexington restaurant known for its brunches and burgers is closing after nearly a decade. But there’s still time get one more meal.

Lexington Diner announced the news on March 12, saying that the restaurant will close on March 19 at 3 p.m.

“After enjoying nine years as a part of the Lexington community, the diner has come to the end of its lifecycle,” wrote Karin West, operating partner. “Lexington Diner would like to thank our guests and our team for nine great years.”

West also thanked building owner Eli Mashni “for the excellent location and facilities that has contributed to the overall guest experience.”

West said that Azur Patio & Bar will honor Lexington Diner gift cards; chef Jeremy Ashby co-owned both restaurants. Ashby did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Lexington Diner opened downtown at the corner of Upper and Short, serving breakfast and lunch. It moved to the Gardenside neighborhood in 2018 and expanded to add dinner and a full bar.

Lexington Diner has been a brunch favorite for locals and visitors. Most popular items on the menu included Kentucky Bourbon Burger, Big Bert BLT, Lexington Breakfast, Chicken & Waffles, Hot Brown Omelet, Country Clucker, & Gardenside Fish Fry.
