Buc-ee’s breaking ground on second Kentucky location: When, where it will open
Buc-ee’s, the Texas-based gas station chain that has a cult following for its clean bathrooms, jerky selection and rows of gas pumps, will break ground in June on its second Kentucky location.
The ground breaking for construction will be 10:30 a.m. CST on June 5 in Smiths Grove, in Western Kentucky. The project is expected to bring at least 200 jobs to the area.
The new 53,471-square-foot travel center will be in Smiths Grove at 4001 Smiths Grove-Scottsville Road, and will have 120 fueling positions at the spot along I-65 near Bowling Green. It’s expected to open in the summer of 2024.
“We are excited to be in Western Kentucky along a beautiful stretch of I-65 between Nashville and Louisville,” said Stan Beard of Buc-ee’s in a news release. “Smiths Grove will be the smallest town with a Buc-ee’s. It has a big heart just like we do, so we’ll get along just fine!”
Buc-ee’s opened its first Kentucky location in Richmond in April 2022; a third location is expected to open in Western Kentucky in Oak Grove also reportedly in 2024 but construction has yet to begin.
Why is Buc-ee’s a big deal?
Besides being a massive gas refueling center, Buc-ee’s has restaurants pumping out fresh hot barbecue and dozens of flavors of hand made fudge around the clock.
Not to mention the signature Beaver Nuggets, a crunchy popcorn treat with a brown sugar caramel coating.
What does Buc-ee’s sell?
Buc-ee’s bills itself as the world’s most-loved travel center; founded in 1982, there are now 34 stores across Texas, including the world’s largest convenience store, as well as 11 locations in other states.
It’s known for having exceptionally large and clean bathrooms.
Besides food, the stores carry everything from fishing and camping supplies to candles and gifts for all occasions.
