New Southern comfort food restaurant coming back to busy Lexington corner
A busy corner in Lexington long known for home-style cooking is coming back to life.
A new restaurant is going into the spot on Woodland and High that was once the original home of Ramsey’s and subsequent other eateries.
Now, Sabrina Booker, a longtime Lexington restaurant owner, is opening a restaurant called Sassy Bleu. Booker also is co-owner of MiMi’s Southern Style Cooking and formerly owned MiMi’s Soul-to-Go in Julietta Market at Greyline Station.
Booker has been in the restaurant business for 16 years and is expanding with the new solo venture, which she plans to open to customers in early November.
“It’s in the historic Woodland district of Lexington, and that location has a tradition of Southern food,” she said. “I’m bringing Southern food back to that corner.”
Sassy Bleu will have a menu of Southern comfort food as well as more upscale dishes, she said, such as lamb chops. She also plans to serve nightly specials and Kentucky favorites including the Hot Brown. Entrees will come with two sides and honey corn bread, she said.
The lunch menu will have sandwiches as well as more substantial offerings such as a ribeye salad, buffalo chicken salad and Philly cheese steak sandwiches.
The restaurant will seat 76 inside, with a patio for outdoor dining. Sassy Bleu also will have a full bar. And Booker plans to have live bands a few times a month as well as gameday events.
The restaurant also will offer carryout as well as catering, including desserts.
“I hope to become a permanent staple for the community,” she said.
