We were skeptical of Graeter’s Skyline Spice Ice Cream, but its uniqueness left an impact
If you were hoping for scoops of chili in your ice cream than you’ll be disappointed with the Graeter’s Skyline Spice Ice Cream, but if you like the spices that make Skyline Chili what it is then you’re in for a treat.
Graeter’s Ice cream and Skyline Chili unveiled a much-anticipated collaboration last week: Graeter’s Skyline Spice Ice Cream.
The limited-edition flavor combines Graeter’s handcrafted French Pot ice cream with oyster crackers and Skyline’s signature chili spice mix. Graeter’s is known for its dense, rich premium ice cream, and Skyline for chili cheese coneys and 3-Ways, topped with the unique taste of Cincinnati chili.
This delectable creation is available for online orders nationwide at Graeters.com.
It’s also available in 5-ounce scoops in all Skyline restaurants, in a pint and by the scoop at all Graeter’s scoop shops, and in pints at select Kroger stores throughout Cincinnati; Columbus, Ohio; Indianapolis; Louisville; and Lexington.
You can watch our review in the video above, but here are some final words from our reviewers:
Alex Valentine, managing editor: I’m a Skyline Chili megafan but was skeptical of the ice cream. I was pleasantly surprised, though. It’s not bad! And it pairs well with three to seven cheese coneys.
Monica Kast, higher education reporter: I was, admittedly, very wary of trying ice cream made with the same spices as Skyline Chili. I called my dad the night before, and he recommended bringing Tums with me. Turns out, the ice cream was great! The spices that make Skyline unique — nutmeg and cinnamon — are the most prominent flavors in the ice cream, and the oyster crackers gave it a nice crunch. As the self-proclaimed No. 1 pumpkin pie fan, I loved it.
Janet Patton, restaurant and bourbon reporter: If you like nutmeg, this is the ice cream for you. If you don’t, then there isn’t a lot more that it has to offer.
Caroline Makauskas, UK women’s basketball reporter: Though I admittedly went into the experience a bit unsure, I was pleasantly surprised by the ice cream. Typical Graeter’s texture, a crunchy oyster cracker here and there, warm flavors reminiscent of a pumpkin pie or chai latte. Do yourself a flavor and throw some hot sauce on your scoop. Can’t go wrong!
