Lexington restaurant, winery announces going out of business sale. What’s next?
A Lexington winery and restaurant once in the running for James Beard awards is closing.
Jean Farris Winery & Bistro announced the business at 6825 Old Richmond Road is closing after more than two decades.
“After 22 years I am closing Jean Farris Winery & Bistro but not before one last call,” owner Jeanie O’Daniel announced.
Wine by the bottle or by the case will be available through March 29.
“It’s been a good run,” said O’Daniel. She said she was thankful for all of her customers over the years. “Very thankful for all of them, and their patronage all these years.”
O’Daniel founded the winery with her late husband, Ben Farris O’Daniel, in 2004. She said it had been for sale since his death in 2016. It’s under contract to sell and is expected to close at the end of the month.
The winery was known for its elegant tasting room and upscale restaurant with large patio overlooking the grape vines. Jean Farris often participates in Lexington food events including Lexington Restaurant Week and wine tastings to raise money for McConnell Springs.
“It was a place for people to come over the years for special events,” O’Daniel said.
In 2011, Jean Farris Bistro executive chef Justin Thompson and winemaker Ben O’Daniel were in the running for James Beard awards. Thompson was invited to prepare a Kentucky dinner, paired with Jean Farris’ award-winning wines, at James Beard House in New York City.
