The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621 — and here we are again.

According to Butterball.com’s Thanksgiving Outlook Report for 2025, 89% of us plan to celebrate Thanksgiving this year.

Turkey still reigns supreme as the favorite part of the meal (47%), followed by stuffing (41%), pie (29%), and potatoes (white potatoes and sweet potatoes tied at 26%.) No surprise, as leftover turkey is popular for sandwiches, salads, soups and more for several days afterward.

But does the thought of hosting a successful Thanksgiving get-together with family and friends send you hiding under the kitchen table?

Lexington, Central Kentucky restaurants open on Thanksgiving

The Brown Barrel, 204 N. Gratz St. in Midway and 204 W. Broadway in Frankfort, is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Their buffet features roasted turkey, baked ham, green beans, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, corn pudding, and a variety of gourmet desserts. Granddam at The Manchester, 941 Manchester St., will have a special prix fixe menu noon to 7 p.m. The family-style turkey dinner includes turkey, wood fired warm seasonal salad, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls, corn pudding, gravy, cranberry sauce, and pecan and apple pie for $65 per person. Infinity Rooftop Restaurant & Bar, at Marriott City Center, 121 W. Amsden Station, 108 Court St. in Versailles, offers a carry-out holiday meal featuring a 10-14 lb. brined and dry-rubbed whole roasted turkey hen with rosemary-peppercorn gravy, buttermilk whipped potatoes, candied yams, green bean almondine, stuffing, cranberry jam, yeast rolls, and a pre-baked pumpkin pie. Ramsey’s Diners, 3090 Helmsdale Place, 112 Lucille Dr., 4391 Old Harrodsburg Rd., and 151 W. Zandale, has full heat-and-eat dinners (for four or more) for $29.95 per person, including sliced turkey breast with gravy, cornbread stuffing fresh cranberry sauce and dinner rolls with your choice of three veggie sides. Individual pans of veggies to serve four or more available for $17.95 each; for 6 or more, $24.95. Sides include honey mustard carrots, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potato casserole, country-style green beans, mac & cheese, stewed tomatoes, coleslaw, baked apples, and broccoli casserole. Includes a whole roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, cornbread dressing, gravy, sweet potato casserole, country-style green beans, and cranberry pineapple salad, including a choice of two pumpkin, apple, or pecan pies. You can also have your turkey carved and add additional protein options or other special pan sides. Deadline to order is Nov. 24 at noon. Selma’s Catering Co., 720 Henry Clay Blvd., Thanksgiving Family Feast Dinner Package features choice of roasted spatch-cocked turkey or Applewood-smoked ham, homemade yeast rolls, and choice of three hearty sides. Feed four for $180; or eight people for $350; or 12 people for $470. Available sides are cornbread dressing, brown butter mashed potatoes, potato gratin haricots vert with caramelized shallots and almonds, sweet potato casserole, and maple-glazed roasted root vegetables. Available a la carte items include country ham on cheddar biscuits, plain deviled eggs, Broadbent bacon deviled eggs, and Angel biscuits with whipped honey butter. Prices vary. Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, 3501 Lexington Rd. in Harrodsburg, is sold out for dining at the Trustees’ Table on Thanksgiving Day but you still can get a meal with all of the trimmings to carry out, including dinner, dessert, beverage, tax and tip. Price: $58 for adults, $29 for children 6-12, and $10 for children 5 and under. Includes relish bowl, bakery breads, cranberry relish, roasted turkey, baked country ham, cornbread dressing, smoked turkey gravy, corn pudding, sauteed green beans, mashed potatoes, glazed butternut squash, with choice of lemon pie, pumpkin pie, maple cake, seasonal fruit crisp, or chocolate cake with bourbon buttercream for dessert. Subway, eight Lexington locations, has the TurHamKen, a holiday sub sandwich that combines oven-roasted turkey, Black Forest ham, and rotisserie-style chicken, with stuffing, cranberry sauce, Monterey cheddar cheese, spinach, red onions, and mayo on multigrain bun; 6-inch is $7.69, foot-long is $12.49. There is also the new Festive Turkey sandwich: 6-inch is $6.89, Foot-long is $11.29. You can also add cranberry sauce and stuffing to any sub for $1.

Trader Joe’s, 2326 Nicholasville Rd., has natural antibiotic-free brined Fresh Young Turkeys (12-16 pounds) for $2.49 a pound; their Kosher Fresh Young Turkeys are $3.49 a pound; and their free-range Organic Young Turkeys are $3.99 a pound. A tray of Trader Joe’s Vanilla Bean Whipped Sweet Potatoes is $5.99. You will also find double cream brie, organic mushrooms, Brussels sprouts stalk, cheeseball cheese spread, spicy and sweet pepper dip, tiny pies, and much more. B Closed on Thanksgiving.

Walmart.com, is offering a Thanksgiving meal basket that feeds 10 people for under $4 each person. Includes a 10-16 lb. Butterball frozen whole turkey, bag of cranberries, bag of whole russet potatoes, brown gravy mix, can of sweet whole kernel corn, bag of baby-cut carrots, can of green beans, can of condensed cream of mushroom soup, bag of French fried onions salad topping, box of mac & cheese, 2-count Stove Top stuffing mix, twelve brown and serve dinner rolls, two pie crusts, can of pure pumpkin, and can of evaporated milk. Estimated final cost: $35.01. They are also offering free express delivery on the meal basket for first-time pickup and delivery customers. Delivery is available in as fast as one hour.

Whole Foods Market, 4059 Finn Way, has a Thanksgiving Extravaganza for 12 priced at $549.99; a Beef Wellington meal for 4 for $179.99; and a Plant Based Meal for 2 for $42.99, and a wide variety of other holiday options. Many traditional Thanksgiving items are available as oven-ready feasts. Orders must be made at least 48 hours in advance. Pick up Nov. 21-27; order deadline is 24 hours ahead of pick-up date. Broadway in Georgetown, has homemade truffles and chocolates, whole freshly baked pies for $35, whole cheesecakes for $75, as well as slices in the grab-and-go. Missy’s Pies, 502 E. High St., is taking orders for their popular holiday pies. They note they sell almost 2,000 pies the three days before Thanksgiving. Kentucky State Resort Parks, Many Kentucky State Resort Parks will host an annual Thanksgiving Day buffet on Nov. 27. My Old Kentucky Dinner Train, 602 N. Third St. in Bardstown, offers a Thanksgiving Train Dinner excursion priced from $76.50-$232.
