Highly rated food truck opening chicken wing restaurant in Central Kentucky

A top-rated Los Angeles food truck is relocating and opening a chicken wing restaurant in Central Kentucky.

Kings Wings will celebrate its grand opening at noon June 13 at 822 Indian Mound Drive in Mt. Sterling, in a shopping center near the city’s Kroger grocery store.

David King says he perfected his double-fried, jumbo chicken wing recipes and proprietary sauces while living in Los Angeles, earning high praise on Yelp! for his food truck business.

But King and his wife Britney chose to move to Mt. Sterling in May 2025, and along with his mother, Linda Read, they decided to open a permanent location.

“Their goal was to build a fun, family-friendly restaurant for the whole community: game watching on big screen TVs while kids played on the retro arcade games, lunch for all generations of the family after Sunday church, Friday date nights or a quick take-out dinner when too busy to cook,” Read said in an email.

Family-owned local restaurant Kings Wings is opening Saturday, June 13 in Mt. Sterling, which is about 45 minutes from downtown Lexington. "Unlike most wing restaurants, we fry our wings and fries in beef tallow which offers a much higher quality product and gives a much bolder taste,” the owners said.

Read said the chicken wings and all of Kings Wings menu items are made fresh to order. The majority of the 17 wing sauces and dry rubs are homemade, including Kentucky Bourbon and Spicy Peach.

“The flavor of our wings fried with beef tallow and the frying technique we use set our wings apart from other wing restaurants,” Read said.

Wings can be boneless or bone-in, plus the menu has chicken fingers.

The dine-in, carryout and catering menu also includes hand-cut fries, smashburgers, buffalo chicken quesadilla, hand-squeezed lemonade and the popular treat, Dole Soft Serve (also called Dole Whip).

Kings Wings’ dining room has four vintage arcade games, including Ms. Pac-Man, televisions and a king’s throne chair to sit in for pictures.

The owners spent almost a year planning and renovating Kings WIngs restaurant after operating as a top-rated Los Angeles food truck. The renovations include murals by Mt. Sterling artist, Steve Jackson.
